Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Chief Mechanic to join our offshore drilling operations talent pool.
The Chief Mechanic is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient operation of all mechanical equipment onboard the rig. The role involves leading mechanical maintenance activities, troubleshooting complex mechanical issues, implementing preventative maintenance programs, managing spare parts and ensuring maximum equipment uptime and operational safety.
The position works closely with the Rig Superintendent and Preventive Maintenance Manager and requires strong technical leadership within a drilling-rig environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and supervise mechanical operations and maintenance activities.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical equipment and systems.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs.
- Ensure drilling and mechanical equipment remains safe, reliable and operational.
- Plan and coordinate maintenance activities to maximize equipment availability.
- Manage mechanical spare parts, inventory and related purchasing requirements.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
- Administer and update the Preventive Maintenance System (PMS).
- Communicate mechanical issues, maintenance status and operational requirements to management.
- Lead and motivate the mechanical maintenance team.
- Support staff development, training and performance improvement.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, safety standards and oil & gas regulations.
- Promote a strong safety, quality and environmental culture onboard.
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of experience in onshore and offshore drilling operations.
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Chief Mechanic.
- Previous direct experience with rig drilling equipment – mandatory.
- Proven experience leading and motivating a mechanical maintenance team.
- Extensive experience diagnosing and repairing complex mechanical problems on drilling rigs.
- Proven ability to develop and implement preventative maintenance programs.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical maintenance practices and drilling-rig equipment.
- Strong understanding of oil & gas industry safety regulations and procedures.
- Good leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a demanding offshore drilling environment.
Education / Qualifications
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering – mandatory.
- Relevant technical and mechanical maintenance certifications are advantageous.
- Additional offshore safety certifications may be required depending on the assignment.
