Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Assistant Driller to join our offshore drilling operations talent pool.
The Assistant Driller plays a key role in supporting the Driller and ensuring the safe, efficient and reliable operation of drilling-rig equipment. The position involves assisting with the operation and maintenance of equipment such as drawworks, mud pumps and rotating systems, monitoring wellbore conditions and supporting successful well-completion objectives in accordance with approved drilling programs.
The Assistant Driller must follow rig-specific procedures, participate actively in safety activities and work effectively as part of the drilling crew.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Driller with safe and efficient drilling operations.
- Operate and monitor drilling equipment, including drawworks, mud pumps and rotating equipment.
- Monitor wellbore conditions and drilling parameters.
- Support drilling activities in accordance with approved drilling programs and procedures.
- Maintain accurate drilling records and prepare operational reports.
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety briefings and emergency response activities.
- Follow all HSE, environmental and rig-specific safety requirements.
- Assist with inspection, maintenance and preparation of drilling equipment.
- Support proper operation and monitoring of the mud system.
- Ensure drilling equipment and work areas are maintained in safe operating condition.
- Work collaboratively with the Driller, Derrickman and wider rig crew.
- Perform other duties related to drilling operations as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum 6 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.
- Previous experience on drilling rigs as an Assistant Driller and/or Derrickman – mandatory.
- Basic understanding of drilling operations, well-control principles and drilling equipment.
- Practical ability to perform manual work in a physically demanding offshore environment.
- Proven ability to work effectively as part of a drilling team.
- Strong safety awareness and commitment to HSE requirements.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow rig-specific procedures and operational instructions.
Education / Qualifications
- High School Diploma – required.
- Technical Degree in Drilling Technology – required/preferred as applicable.
Certifications
- Valid Well Control Certification – mandatory.
- Drilling Rig Operator Training Program – required.
- Additional offshore safety certifications may be required depending on the rig and project.
